Risk can come in many forms ­- natural disaster, farm safety issues or personal health matters...and a death, serious illness or incapacity can often leave families with nowhere to turn. · It is estimated that approximately 36 deaths occur each year due to farm machine injury.

• Tractors are the single machine most commonly associated with accidental death or injury on farms.
• Preventable cancers associated with excessive sun exposure and higher smoking rates were among the main cancers with significantly higher incidence rates in rural areas between 2001 & 2003.
• Two and four wheel motor cycles are associated with an estimated 400 to 500 admissions to hospital each year.
• Agricultural and veterinary chemicals have a range of effects through absorption into the skin, inhalation and ingestion causing 30 to 40 hospital admissions each year.
• Noise damage to hearing causes hearing loss and tinnitus which is a major disabling problem for farmers and farm workers
